Lara moved to North Carolina recently from Boca Raton, Florida and is beginning her second year at DSPA. She began studying classical ballet technique at Boca Ballet Theater with Dan Guin and Jane Tyree. There she was given the opportunity to perform in many full length ballets including Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, La Bayadere, Les Sylphides and her all time favorite Swan Lake. During her time there she also had the opportunity to perform in contemporary works such as George Balanchine’s La Source, Mikelle Bruzina’s Braum’s Song Sonatas, and Ella Sang choreographed by Dan Guin.
In 2012 Lara received her B.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography, with a second major of European Studies at the University of South Carolina. There she studied under Stacey Calvert former Soloist of New York City Ballet, Thaddeus Davis of Wideman Davis Dance, and Kyra Strasberg former Principal of Boston Ballet. While at USC Lara was able to perform in various Balanchine works such as Stars and Stripes, Serenade, and Walpurgisnaught. She also had the opportunity to workshop Twyla Tharp’s Eight Jelly Roles, and finished up her four years at USC traveling with a group of her peers to the American College Dance Festival in 2012 to perform Thaddeus Davis’s original contemporary work “It’s Getting Heavy.”
